More than one bit of good news!
Okay so I'm still working on the Bar Stewards edit. I have an A4 sheet of paper full of notes that I need to work on along with a small amount of filming that I may be able to do myself which will be shots for the opening scene. The reason I'm going a bit slower is partly tiredness, partly because it was my birthday on the 16th and partly because I've had other things to work on. At the college we've been installing computers and software amongst lots of other things. But the thing that's really pulled me away from the Bar Stewards edit is the Bad Lad DVD.
The good news is that we've decided to scrap the movie only DVD and instead release the film with lots of extras all crammed on a single DVD. There must be over an hour of stuff on there besides the movie. I've remastered the video again, added cleaner end credits which have been slightly updated to include people who have worked on the film over the past 12 months. Unfortunately to do this has taken up precious time for me and the computer but as I'm 99.9% finished with the authoring of the DVD I should be able to get back on with the editing of Bar Stewards over the weekend.
I don't know how long it will take for the first run of the Diary of a Bad Lad extras laden DVD, I'll let Jonathan Williams keep you up to date with that. Let's just say it adds a lot of extra value - we felt bad about short changing any buyers by not giving away all the extra footage with it. The motion menu's look good too
Back to Bar Stewards - amazing news! We now finally have an audio post-production team thanks to sound guru Alan Sheldon. Alan has worked on the feature films Splintered & Butterfly Tattoo and will be supervising the audio post-production of Bar Stewards. The other person who will be overseeing the audio post is Norbert Weiher. I met Norbert on Wednesday and his enthusiasm is contagious. He's really looking forward to creating a fantastic sounding movie.

The main facility where the audio will be recorded is SSR in Manchester (School of Sound Recording which is formerly Spirit Studios) which is an amazing place with several studio spaces. Bands like The Smiths, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, 808 State and New Order have all recorded there at some time or other.
The whole movie will be ADR'D (this is when the original dialogue is replaced with re-recorded dialogue), foley'd (this is all ambient sounds, footsteps, rustling of clothing, etc) and mixed in 5.1 surround.
And Cop has just received word from Chris that he's going to really try hard to get in as many hours as possible to record the ADR. As I said all actors will have to record every line of dialogue in the film that they originally said - so as Chris is the lead, and it's a dialogue heavy film, it's quite a huge task.
Our deadline is October, no specific date yet but it means that September will be a Bar Stewards editing frenzy - and we still have to shoot a few bits too.
So we're going to have an immense sounding movie recorded at the same place that's had the presence of The Rolling Stones.
Consider me very happy
Also, news just in, I'll be on Radio Lancashire next Tuesday at 10pm talking about how I got into filmmaking and my projects.

It's now online and confirmed
We have really landed on out feet with this deal. The SSR website reports that we have had funding from North West Vision and UK Film Council. This is not true, they will have got that information from some press-kit literature which they paid for a couple of years ago.
The film on a whole has been funded by ourselves, and by begging, stealing and borrowing.
SSR will once again provide real world work experience for it’s students as the entire class from Film and TV Audio Post Production course are about to start work on a full-length UK made feature film called ‘Bar Stewards’.
The black comedy (written and directed by Michael Booth – Diary of a Bad Lad) is funded by Northwest Vision and Media as well as the UK Film Council. Currently the editors are finalising the cut and audio post production is scheduled to start in October at SSR.
Says Norbert Weiher, Head of Post Production at SSR,
“I am very pleased that we have been approached by the producers to carry out the audio post production for them. SSR continues to work in tandem with the industry and every approach is a testimony to our growing reputation as leaders in media technology training. It will be a fantastic opportunity for the phase 3 students to put their skills to test on a full-length film and this will also give phase 1 student’s experience of working practices and workflow in feature film production. All students involved will appear in the credits for the feature film on release – another unique opportunity for our students.”
