"Asha Media" & “Future Artists” present: A RADICAL NEW APPROACH FOR WATCHING AND MAKING FILMS...
SATURDAY 11TH JULY 2009
URBIS | MANCHESTER | UNITED KINGDOM
7:30 PM - 1:00 AM
Tickets: £5

This is quite probably the most important independent film event to be held in Manchester so far this century.
The old models for making, distributing and watching independent films are crumbling.
New models are being born.
We are all sailing in uncharted waters.
“Future Artists” is bringing together the advanced guard of the regions no- and micro-budget feature filmmakers who will be reporting back from the front line.
And it’s guaranteed not to be any of the bullshit you get from the likes of the Film Council and their lackeys who are quite happy to see the ‘British Film Industry’ remain as Hollywood’s number one colony where Harry Potter, James Bond, and – yes- Slumdog Millionaire make billions for the colonial masters, and where a British film will not be on general release unless the Americans own all the rights!
But truly independent American filmmakers – as against the studios trying to con us that their mid-budget movies are somehow ‘independent’ – labour just as much under the Hollywood production/distribution/exhibition monopoly as we do. But they’re fortunate not to have a Film Council muddying the waters, so they’re further down the ‘punk cinema’ DIY road than we are. Future Artists will be bringing updates on the latest news from across the pond.
Denmark makes 20+ features a year. Denmark has the same size population as the Northwest. Name a Danish football team, name just one Danish pop group, name two Danish cities…. Have I made my point?
Check out the programme details at: http://www.futureartists.co.uk/notpartof.php
This event is essential for every independent filmmaker, fan, friend, follower, exhibitor, student, media tutor and arts administrator in the region.
Kino and Filmonik will be screening the cream of the region’s shorts.
