This used to haunt me like a bastard when I was a kid - The Boy From Space. Anyone else remember it? It was a section on the BBC learning show Look and Read (remember Wordy? It was that show with the pencil that moved by itself to spell words - no not via poltergeistal activity, but by dodgy chromakey). Your teacher would put it on before dinner break - great days.

THE BOY FROM SPACE though - proper scary I tell thee.

Link here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/classic/lookandread/

Can anyone get me a copy? There's some video clips on the BBC website.

Magic

I didn't remember it until I saw the picture on the website. Fucking freaky weren't it. Why did they do that to us? Them were the days indeed. I remember that one about the really massive knight ("Go to the old Library") and Badger Girl as well.

Wordy, now there's a blast from the past. Why don't you build yourself a word, build yourself a word with an 'ing', to say it's happening. Superb. There was also 'Magic Magic E, Magic Magic E'. Were they trying to tell us something?

By the way, I've just watched the clip of the boy from space. It still made me shit my pants.

Oh and apparantly the last time I visited the pleased sheep forums was the 1st January 1970, a full 7 years before I was born. Now that's magic....

I just stumbled across a mention of this last night - didn't know it was called 'the boy from space' but did a search on Google and found out that there was quite a following for Look and Read and for The Boy from Space.

And yes, still spooky. It's when they open their mouths and that weird garbled noise comes out. Reminds me a bit of something from a David Lynch movie - but obviously pre-dates Lynch by quite a few years.

Thanks for the clips; they were great. :)

For some reason, the first of those clips reminded me of both Button Moon and The Clangers! :D

Actually, from looking at your initial link, I've just been reminded today of the name of the schools prog that used to really spook me, and I believe Birty (mine has a 'massive knight' in it too :p ), out as a kid: *shiver* Dark Towers. *shudder*

The one I still can't remember the name of, though, is the one that was about some sort of bag lady...though I don't think she was homeless as I remember her going inside a flat! Anyone?! :p

Neither could I until I saw Michael's link! :D

Dark Towers was just one of those shows that really lingered in the memory after you watched it and then would follow you around wherever you went! And then when the lights went out at night and you tried to get to sleep, another sort of knight would start to come out to play.......AARRGGHHHHH.....NOOOOO....*shivers* *pulls duvet up over head* *hides from the 'night/knight'* :D

And how is the old acting lark treating you, Birty? Not being too mischievous, I hope! :p

Not too bad. Barstewards is coming along okay and from what Booth tells me it looks first rate. Can't wait to get it done and get it out there. You'll be very happy when you see it, if only because Chris has plenty of screen time. He is a decent fella, although be warned he does eat live squirrels.

Glad to hear it!

So, who do you play in BS, then? Hope you get some good screen time!

And yes, the film does sound fab; I really can't wait to see it...in 2008! *sobs...2008* :( :D

I am indeed looking forward to seeing it for Chris's involvement, but, and I do mean this, also for the film as a whole (as it does sound like a film of real quality), and, of course, so I can see you in it too....*hugs* :p :)

Birty (aka Paul Birtwistle) plays 'Cunty' (aka Jamie Cuntilever). He's the best friend of Layton (played by Chris). Offensive by name and offensive by nature.

So yes, he does have a lot of screen-time.

I should have given that BS IMDb page another quick look, shouldn't I?! :D

Good to hear I'll be seeing lots of him on screen. :)

It was unexpected...

Especially as I thought it was badgers.

It's just the PS sense of humour I'm afraid.

Chris has confirmed that you he'll appear on these very forums at some point, though with squirrel/badger-gate. It may well have put him off :D

Oh, that is great news, Michael (well, not that last bit!!); thank you. :)

And please pass on my thanks to Chris for being kind enough to do this, especially as he is such a busy guy right now - and beyond! :)
