With Diary of a Bad Lad Pleased Sheep Films set out to prove that uncompromising films could be made on no money. We didn't set out to blaze a trail, but as soon as we'd finished shooting, Bad Lad star and Bolton resident Joe O'Byrne set about developing the now virtually completed, no-budget "Looking for Lucky". And In Manchester the young filmmaker and jazz musician, Baldwin Li, set about making "25gs" - a film which is like a British crime flick that's been hijacked by David Lynch. And there are more 100% independent no/micro-budget films in the pipeline.
Now all of these filmmakers are coming together with some of the region's leading film festival programmers. One of the aims is to establish a North West indie film circuit. Sure we wouldn't turn down offers from any of the multiplexes. But we ain't going to wait till hell freezes over, so we're aiming first at arts centres, independent cinemas, film clubs and societies, universities and colleges - and, what the heck, if you've an indie film fan with a big front room you could even put on a screening for your mates. And whenever possible we'll want screenings to be an event - Q&A sessions (just as long as the expenses are covered), supporting programmes with ground-breaking short films, or even live music. It's up to you.
