Yeh I really can't wait for this film. It looks great but I can also relate to it having embarked on my own cinematic masterpiece 'The Quest of Konrad' when I was a nipper. It was awesome. It was set in a medieval fantasy world complete with sorcerers, blood capsules and smoke bombs. considering how old we were I think we did a pretty good job. I have it on VHS so maybe I'll give it an airing someday...

Yeh I keep meaning to put it on dvd. we even started filming a sequel that opened with an elaborate chase sequence. So elaborate we went over budget after we shot it. It looks cool though. We made MASSIVE broadswords in CDT and edited it by hooking two VCR's together. To get the soundtrack on (something from Jurassic Park) we played the music through a stereo while filming our edited shots on a tv screen while it was playing on VHS. We suffered massive loss of pictue quality but was worth it for the music! Who needs final cut!!
Saw th'Orphanage today in glorious hi def at the cinema. Really enjoyed it. A well crafted horror that I kept trying to predict but couldn't. How scary was it when the old lady with the pram woke up after she had been run over!!!!??

Just watched Quest Of Konrad again. I laughed my ass off! I am putting it on DVD soon and I can't wait to show you guys.
Its so bad it has an endearing charm to it. Its a medieval fantasy film and in one scene some guy with an anorak and bob hat walks past in the background. Also there are continual appearances of my friends black labrador that lollops into frame wanting to play!
It was all edited in camera and for music we had a cassette playing from a ghetto blaster next to the camera. At the end of each scene we had to stop the tape at the same time as stopping the camera so that we could simultaneously start them in the next scene. The idea was that the music would be a continous soundtrack. it didnt quite work - at one point we forgot to start the music up and you hear someone next to camera whisper "MUSIC" really loudly!!
Another funny moment is during a fight scene and the baddie's blood capsule falls from his mouth and you see him picking it up off the floor and put it back in. It looks like he has just decided to munch on a piece of forest floor in the middle of a battle!!
We should organise an evening where we can show and tell our amateur films from the past. It would be such a laugh. Fancy hosting it Wiggy?

Nice one. It will be like a Bar Stewards cast/crew film festival. I am guessing a weekend is best. Lets get it sorted!

Well I just thought the audience would be us guys - the core set of Bar Stewards. We can do that can't we? I haven't see Dropouts or Rail Fiction so would be a good chance for some viewings. I know Cop will have a few up his sleeve too. I'd like to ADR Dropouts so we can put it on the net. Unfortunately it's full of commercial music, which is now illegal since the government abolished fair use of copyrighted material (it was a student film so back then we could use it due to it's 'educational' nature).
And Bar Stewards is priority at the moment. Would love to get the audio remastered for Dropouts though just so that we can show it.

Just been to see this today...and thought it was a great film. Really enjoyable and with some really nice touches. Fun lil subplot, too, that not only ends up becoming weaved into the main one but ends up filled with meaning for the character it focuses on. With the film's ending, you do have to fill in the gaps a little in terms of how it probably came to be. However, it was still a lovely way to end the film. And the acting was superb all round. Will Poulter (Lee Carter) was amazing.
Recommend this really highly. Definitely worth a trip to the cinema for. Oh, and there's a lil extra something in there if you wait until the credits are just finishing.

I was mentioning Dropouts as there's a direct connection to Bar Stewards, may make a nice extra on the DVD. But besides that I'd really like to put it on the site. Nice bit of nostalgia, and Birty plays a very slow guy who's really into old kids tv.

Just seen Son Of Rambow and thought it was most excellent! I really thought that I would connect with this film having spent half my childhood attached to a video camera and I absolutely did! When I think back to being a kid I do so with fond nostalgia and this film does the same. The music, the language, the hairstyles, the cars and that good ol fashioned 'playing out' mentality was all perfectly realised, it really took me back.
Aside from this element the film was well scripted, directed and the two kids gave brilliant performances. I had a tear in my eye during the final sequence which for me was on par emotionally with the final scenes of 'Cinema Paradiso' when all the cut kissing scenes are edited together.
I loved this movie because it really brought fond memories of my childhood to the surface and cinematically it hits all the right notes. Go see.
