Is it bad of me to really enjoy Doctor Who? I got all exited (not in the sexual way) when John Simm turned into The Master in todays episode. A bit like when they introduced a Dalek in the 1st series, the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end.

Even now, into its third series, I think the new Doctor Who has been fantastic so far, its been really fun viewing. Its good to watch it with the whole family. And seeing John Simm pop into it was brilliant, he is fantastic actor.

Yeah, I've also been enjoying DW since its revival. Not all the episodes have been of the same standard, but overall it's made for pretty good viewing.

With this third series, I personally thought it got off to a poor start with Smith and Jones. For a start, it was absolutely riddled with plot holes, even allowing for the fact this is DW we are talking about!! And I felt the extras who were playing the hospital patients were rather, er, 'unconvincing' when they were enacting the patients screaming and desperately wanting out of the hospital! Also, for me, the episode '42' was really nothing special either. However, there have been some brilliant episodes too. Two I particularly love are Gridlock and Blink. Gridlock was just so original and moving, and Blink was just a really involving watch, full of mystery and great plotting...and those 'statues'! Ooh!

Thought Derek Jacobi was brilliant in this latest episode, with special guest cast mentions for this third series also going to Ardal O'Hanlon (Blink) and the really talented Jessica Hynes (outstanding in the Human Nature double).

Btw, on tonight's episode, you had Captain Jack saying how as the decades kept on passing and he was surviving these normally unsurvivable 'events', he slowly realised that he wasn't able to die....Well, I'd have thought the fact he wasn't ageing at all would have also been some indicator to that!

Most emotional episode of the whole of the new series.....Doomsday.

I think I agree with you about the holes in the plot, especially with the Smith and Jones episode, I think the loss of Billie Piper flumuxed the writers a little bit.

If Rose was still in it, The Doctor would be falling in love with his true love, rather than some soppy stranger he has just met in a hospital... like a few days after losing Rose - but to be fair - she is fit, and i wouldn't say no!

I know its not exactly a love story, but all Martha seems to do - is chase The Doctors' cock, which he insists he wants nothing to do with it.

The story hasn't centered around this plot for a few episodes in this series, but the first few were beginning to get quite soppy for me, and if it was towards the Rose character I would have accepted it a bit... but thats my only gripe at the moment.

But strangly, I do prefer episodes where the doctor isn't in it as much, Blink was a good episode, it reminded me a bit of Love & Monsters from series two, featuring Marc Warren and Peter Kay.

I prefer it where The Doctor is more mystrious, as sometimes I dont want to understand everything that is going on about him. Thats why I quite like that Captain Jack fella, is he a goody, a baddy, is he charming, or just perverted? I like the thought of The Doctor having a dark side, the idea that everywhere he goes, theres trouble, he is a walking disaster...

I prefer the episodes where it evolves around character effected by The Doctor and time travel... but thats just me.

I do enjoy watching them.

I squealed a little bit when Martha noticed the watch. Last night's episode was very good, great even. I don't think I've been so excited after watching an episode.

I watched the original series when it was on (I can just about remember Peter Davidson as my first Doctor, though I was very young), though I'm terrible for remembering the stories, so was always going to be interested in the revival. Given the budget and technology available to the makers I think the new series has exceeded expection to be honest.

And I've liked Martha in the series. I think she's more together than Rose ever was. Not such an emotional wreck. Where The Doctor fell in love with Rose for her personality, with Martha it's pure respect for her intelligence. He likes her sense of adventure but he's just not enchanted by her. I like that shift in relationship. Though, a male companion to join them next series wouldn't go amiss.

I have always liked the idea of a female Doctor though - Before the remakes I though Dawn French would have been quite good.

You could have a female Time Lord but The Doctor is a male of the species, so he'd never regenerate into a woman. Unless they come up with a complex slip in the continum for a christmas special where he becomes a woman for an episode. They kind of did it with New Earth when Cassandra entered his body, but it was still David Tennant.

The Doctor did travel with his granddaughter when it started in the 60s with William Hartnall, but she seemingly disappeared. They've brought The Master back so maybe the granddaughter might make a return at some point.

Actually, I'm not that into sci-fi myself. Just Doctor Who, Life On Mars, Farscape, Buffy and Angel, stuff like that. I've never been into Star Trek or Stargate or that sort of thing. I don't go round dressed as a Klingon.

I flippin' love Doctor Who!!!

I think this third series has been amazing. There are probably only one or two episodes that I haven't enjoyed.

I loved series 1, but found series 2 to be quite hit and miss though. I started to really dislike Rose throughout series 2, I hated her family even more, and I didn't like David Tennant as the Doctor until episode 7!

Series 3 has been fantastic though. David has really settled in as The Doctor now, and Freema makes a great companion. I think Martha is much better than Rose, although I wish she'd get rid of her schoolgirl type crush on The Doctor

Yesterday's episode was complete WOW....well, for the last 15 mins at least! I think I might have even let out a squee with the revelation about The Professor being The Master and then when Derek Jacobi regenerated into John Simm! I thought Derek Jacobi was fantastic and I preferred him to John Simm. I wasn't too keen on what we saw of John Simm in the episode.

Great episode though, and I even actually enjoyed Captain Jack, despite loathing the character when he first appeared in series 1! Lol, Joanna, bet you never thought you'd hear me say that!!!

I *think* I know who the hand belongs to and who he/she might possibly turn out to be (see your myspace messages on this Joanna!), but I'm probably wrong hahaha! Whatever the significance though, it does seem to leave a loose end that will hopefully be tied up next series!

Ive finally seen the episode now... I was getting drunk in Blackpool and I realized I forgot to set my Sky+ box on Sunday when I got back, good job we have BBC THREE!

Well what did I think? I thought it was gripping, performances where brilliant too, John Simm was fantastic, I was so disappointed when The Master said he didn't want to regenerate, because his character was brilliant, and I thought it was quite emotional in the end too, with him dying in the Doctors arms.

When his ring was pinched (not in a dirty way) from his burning carcass, wasn't that not the hand of the woman who shot him? I assumed it was. anyway are we going to have a female Master next?

As for Captain Jack - well I have to admit, it never crossed my mind about that one. In previous episode he said something quite cryptic to The Doctor, I think it was in the "Daleks in Manhatten" episode, did his tank get smashed and then he said something just before he died? I cant remember, I'm rubbish!

Yeah, great way to end this series. There were quite a number of plot holes throughout, even allowing for the fact this is DW here, but I can mainly forgive those as, overall, I think it worked well and gave us some great and reflective moments.

The best bit of acting in the whole episode for me came from David Tennant when The Doctor was getting overcome with emotion as he held the dying Master in his arms.

Yes...on the ring, it hadn't registered at first whose hand it was, but seeing it again you do see that the red nail varnish matches that of Mrs Saxon. No idea what it means for the next series, though.

Well, it all happened in the fab Gridlock (one of my fave eps of this series). The Face of Boe was using what was left of his own life force to power New Earth's undercity and keep it sealed from the quarantined city above. He dies after he uses what's left of his life force to free those in the undercity into, I think, what he realises is a safe New Earth. FOB calls the Doctor an 'old friend' and, in his last words, tells him 'You are not alone'....which we now know refers to the Master.

Birty actually told me he watched the Doctor Who from a few weeks ago, and he said it was "OK"...
